The Magician's Nephew by C.S. Lewis

In the first book in the Narnia series, Diggory and Polly go into the land of Narnia and face many different challenges. Diggory's Uncle Andrew tricks Polly into touching one of the magical rings, and she goes into a different land and Diggory must go after her to try to save her and bring her back. While they are in Narnia, they meet a witch and she thinks that she is the queen of everything and she accidently comes into the real world and then Diggory brings her back to where she came from. In the end, the two kids meet a lion who bring Narnia to life and he tells Diggory to bring his mother a special apple that can make her better from her illness. When he brings the apply back his mother makes an amazing recovery from what she had and he planted the apple core along with the two rings and the apple tree began to grow.
